Print portrait of Whitmore, Henry (MP) artist Black, G.B.(1868).Thomas Charlton Whitmore was MP for Bridgnorth 1846-1852 and inherited Apley Park. Reverend George Whitmore was rector of Stockton. The family had represented Bridgnorth almost continuously from 1621 in the reign of James I. Henry Whitmore (1813-1876) married Adelaide Darby in 1852. She was a granddaughter of Abraham Darby III, the builder of the Iron Bridge. Her parents were Francis Darby, Abraham's elder son and Hannah Grant. They lived at her family home, White House, which had been re-named Sunniside. He was MP for Bridgnorth 1852-1870 and 1858-1859 was a Lord of the Treasury in Lord Darby's second administration. Sunniside was demolished in the 1960's. (See also 1000-553).
